Welcome to Overdressed, a newsletter about style, beauty, and obsessions (mine).
Who is Marie?
I’ve been a beauty, fashion, and pop culture writer for almost 15 years, but I started off with a blog called Agent Lover which was active during the late aughts’ golden era of blogging. One of my first professional writing gigs was with Tavi Gevinson’s legendary Rookie Magazine, as the style advice columnist. A truly glorious time! I was also the Beauty Editor at HelloGiggles, the Looks Editor for Bust Magazine, and a blogger at The Cut and Jezebel. My bylines have appeared in Allure, WhoWhatWear, CNNStyle, Refinery29, PAPER, Fashionista, Bustle, InStyle, ELLE, Nylon, The Zoe Report, etc. I have a thing for costume design and nostalgic beauty products, and I am a self-titled “Ugly Shoe Historian.” The uglier, more outrageous, and more controversial, the better. You can view selected works at my portfolio, marielodi.com.
Since 2018, I’ve co-hosted a costume design podcast called Makeover Montage with the wonderful G.O.A.T., Blaire Bercy.
And Why Should You Read Overdressed?
I was lucky to have essentially turned blogging into a career, but I always missed the freedom and the community of The Blog. So, here we are!
I’m excited to write about how getting dressed brings me joy while sharing my finds and the designers I love in a different capacity from my other work. In a way, Overdressed is a totally uncut, unadulterated, and sexy extension of my writing. Here, you shall feast upon weird and forgotten fashion and pop culture-related topics that stay living in my brain, rejected pitches, deep dives into subjects that have put me in internet K-holes, and more. For anyone who has known my work as a beauty editor, this will be a place where I will share the holy grail makeup and skincare products that remain in my lineup long after testing!
What to Expect
I plan on writing at least one new Overdressed every week. Paid subscribers will get bonuses like additional posts and my witch’s blessing. I am so grateful to anyone who reads my work, and I hope it resonates with you.
Thank you for being here.
